Protecting public health by insight into antibiotic usage in poultry

Product Boards for Livestock, Meat and Eggs

The Product Board for Poultry and Eggs (PPE) will improve the registration of animal drug usage in the poultry sector. Vellekoop & Meesters is involved in the analysis and design phase of this project.

Monitoring the usage of animal drugs in the poultry sector is crucial for the public health. The emergence of ESBL (a specific form of antibiotic resistance) recently resulted in extensive media coverage of the use of antibiotics in this sector. Subsequently the parliament aims to reduce the use of antibiotics.

The poultry sector and PPE are themselves proactively improving the registration of animal drug usage. The registration will be embedded in the quality mark IKB in the poultry sector.
